As a hunter visiting New Zealand, you may want to know what you should expect from your guide. If you choose to hunt with an NZPHGA guide member, you should expect to receive a level of service befitting that of a professional organisation.

In particular, you should expect your NZPHGA guide member to be skilled in the following:

Before you arrive:
  • Communication and pre-trip planning
  • Disseminating important travel information pertaining specifically to hunters and your hunt
  • Ascertaining your specific needs and aspirations including food, fitness and preferences
  • Accurate quoting of itinerary, inclusions and trip cost
Upon arrival:
  • Client pickup, driving and arranging of connections
  • Any pre-hunt requirements (e.g. hunting equipment, medical requirements)
  • Transfer and check-in to accommodations
Pre-hunt:
  • Equipment check, including expertise and access to facilities regarding firearm sighting
  • Hunt-specific requirements (gear suitable for terrain, weather, target species)
  • Weather forecast check
During the hunt
  • SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY
  • First aid and emergency procedures in the event of an accident
  • Intimate knowledge of the area, terrain, animals and weather patterns
  • Assessing your enjoyment of the experience and adjusting approach as required
  • Locating and stalking of animals
  • Trophy assesment for age, quality and score if required
  • Species -specific advice on shot placement
  • Skinning and trophy recovery
After the hunt:
  • Facilitation of trophy storage or delivery of trophy to taxidermist
  • Assistance in expediting trophy if required
  • Facilitation of transfer to your next destination

In summary, you should expect your NZPHGA guide to be skilled in all aspects of delivering a quality, professional hunting experience from the point of first contact until you are safely back home with your trophy(s) intact.

If you choose to contract with someone who is not a member of the NZPHGA to provide guiding services, you do so at your own risk.
